Kathie’s new design for Japanese-style porcelain dinnerware is now available for online sales. This food-safe tableware is lightweight and durable enough for daily use, including placement in the dishwasher and microwave. Plates stack uniformly.
Shino glazes originated in 16th Century Japan, and they are currently very popular throughout the world. Kathie uses a “carbon-trap” shino exclusively formulated for porcelain, and it is the carbon-trapping that creates a range of results in the glaze. Some pieces are predominantly orange with just a dusting of the carbon effects, others are predominantly grey and even almost black. When ordering your items, please specify your preference and Kathie will contact you about availability.
Shino glazes almost always have an occasional irregularity, and this is consistent with the Buddhist aesthetic of “wabi-sabi” that centers on an acceptance of imperfection. Each plate is very similar, yet one-of-a-kind.
